Fire Rated Ductwork

Ductwork can be designed and constructed to prevent the spread of fire originating from either inside or outside the system.
However, ducts carrying air are often left unprotected, with designers accounting for the possibility of fire penetrating the duct.

In buildings with fire compartmentation, this does not pose a significant issue unless the ductwork passes through a compartment wall or floor. In such cases, it is critical to ensure that the fire is either contained within the duct or arrested at the wall or floor to prevent its spread to adjacent compartments.

When conventional fusible link fire dampers are insufficient to provide the necessary fire protection, the ductwork system must be designed and constructed with fire-resistant properties.

Breffni Air, one of Ireland’s leading specialists in engineering and metal fabrication, is proud to offer the manufacture and installation of EN fire-rated ductwork. With a commitment to delivering cost-effective, durable, and innovative engineering solutions, Breffni Air integrates quality and resilience into every project we undertake.

Alternative Option BS 476 Part 24 Ductwork

We specialize in manufacturing non-coated fire-rated ductwork rigorously tested to comply with both BS 476 Part 24 ( Type A & B) standards, ensuring reliable and certified fire protection.

The earlier standard of BS476 has been superseded as of July 2013 and has been replaced by the new European Standard EN 12101-7 for smoke extract and EN 15871 for fire ductwork, kitchen extract and pressurisation.
